One of mankind's greatest challenges is to achieve an appropriate balance between developing natural resources and maintaining an optimal natural environment. To meet this challenge, we need detailed and reliable geo-information and geo-information management tools.

At the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), knowledge of geo-information management is readily available and is continually being developed and extended. By means of postgraduate education, research and project services, we contribute to capacity building in developing countries and emerging economies. In doing so, considerable attention is paid to the development and application of geographical information systems (GIS) for solving problems. Such problems can range from determining the risks of landslides, mapping forest fires, planning urban infrastructure, and implementing land administration systems, to designing a good wildlife management system or detecting environmental pollution.

The key words characterising our activities are geo-information management, worldwide and innovative. We concentrate on earth observation, the generation of spatial information, and the development of data integration methods. Furthermore, we provide tools that can support the processes of planning and decision making for sustainable development and the alleviation of poverty in developing countries and emerging economies.

Education
More than 19,000 course participants from over 170 countries have followed ITC courses since 1950. With almost 60 years of extensive experience and a dedicated scientific staff with a range of expertise, ITC is one of the world's foremost professional training establishments in the field of geo-information science and earth observation

ITC offers a Master of Science (MSc) and Master degree programme in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation. These programmes are offered in the Netherlands and abroad by ITC itself or by ITC in collaboration with partners in the Netherlands and in- and outside Europe

Seven courses are offered in the degree programmes:
-Applied Earth Sciences

-Governance and Spatial Information Management
-Land Administration
-Natural Resources Management
-Urban Planning and Management
-Water Resources and Environmental Management.

Beside the courses in the degree programmes ITC offers a large variety of (Postgraduate) diploma and certificate (distance education and short course) courses in the field of geo-information science and earth observation.

International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (이하 ITC)는 지질정보관리와 관련된 수준 높은 지식을 확보하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 지속적인 개발 및 확대에도 공헌하고 있습니다. 석사와 박사 과정, 연구 및 프로젝트를 통하여 개발도상국 및 신흥국가들의 역량 구축에 이바지 하고 있으며 특히 지질 관련 문제 해결을 위한 지질정보시스템의 개발 구축과 응용에 많은 관심을 기울이고 있습니다. 해당 문제들로는 지질재해(산사태)위험도 측정, 산불지도작성, 도시인프라계획, 토지관리시스템구축에서 자연생태관리시스템개발, 환경오염탐지 등에 이르기까지 매우 다양합니다.

ITC활동의 키워드는 지질정보 관리, 글로벌 그리고 혁신이라 할 수 있습니다. ITC는 지구 관측, 공간정보생성, 통합정보분석시스템개발에 활동을 집중하고 있습니다. 또한 개발도상국 및 신흥국가들의 지속 가능한 개발 및 빈곤문제 해결을 위한 계획과 의사결정을 지지할 수 있는 방편을 제공하고 있습니다.
